About Defence Research and Development Organisation

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is charged with the Indian military's research and development. It is headquartered in New Delhi and has a network of over 52 laboratories. The DRDO is administered under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. 

DRDO is India's largest and most diverse research organisation covering various sectors like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, land combat engineering, life sciences, materials, missiles, and naval systems. 

The DRDO was organised in 1958 by merging the Defence Science Organisation and some of the technical development institutions. The Department of Defence Research and Development was formed as a separate wing in 1980 which in succeeding administered DRDO and its 50 laboratories and other establishments. 

The Army and the Air Force do not have any research, design or construction responsibility. So the Defence Research Development Organisation is treated as a vendor and the Army Headquarters or the Air Headquarters as the clients/customers. 

A Defence Technology Commission functions for ensuring the efficiency of the DRDO. The Defence Minister of India is the chairman of the committee. The projects which were managed or assisted by the DRDO have seen significant success yielding multiple technological innovations and benefits.

Scientist/ Engineer B in aeronautical development agency(ADA).

  • B.E/B.Tech, M.E/M.Tech in prescribed subjects (Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ Information Science/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Telecommunication) with not less than first class from AICTE approved university or board. 


Scientist B in recruitment and assessment centre(RAC).

  • B.Tech/B.E, M.A, M.Sc, M.E/M.Tech in prescribed subjects (Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ Information Science/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Telecommunication) with not less than first class from AICTE approved university or board.
